Josefína Kablíková, personality of Vrchlabí in the 19th century

In my Diploma thesis I wanted to explore a theme which is close to my region. I decided to write about Josefina Kablíková, a modern and progressive woman of the 19th century. Josefina was an emancipated woman with a very intriguing life story. She was one of a few women botanists of her period. At first, I will present her own biography and a biography of her husband, Vojtěch Kablík. Vrchlabí in the 19th century and its specification is described. The following chapter is devoted to Josefina Kablíková as a botanist. Her botanical research far surpassed the region of Krkonoše. She became famous for her gathering of the Krkonoše flora. Even several botanical species are named after her. Another section illustrates the scientific research of Vojtěch Kablík, a pharmacist and a chemist in Vrchlabí. The last section concerns the Mánes family, who were frequent guests in the house of Kablíkovi. A large number of Mánes's drawings, paintings and portraits came into existence depicting Vrchlabí, its surroundings and Kablíkovi themselves. The aim of this Diploma thesis is to explain significance as well as the life story of the Kablíkovi couple in the context of the period and the region.
The Philanthropy of Culture and Arts: Motivations of Czech Contemporary Patrons

The diploma thesis focuses on growing phenomenon of the "new generation" of the Czech arts and cultural philanthropists and their motivations. The first part exposes the theoretical concept of philanthropy and further describes the patronage of arts and culture in the historical and contemporary contexts of both the foreign and the Czech world. The thesis also provides a brief overview of theoretical concepts analysing altruistic behaviour and the overview of current outputs from international researches that examine who philanthropists are and what are their motivations for giving. The author further focuses on defining the Czech patrons and the obstacles they face in the Czech Republic. A key part of the report consists of the carried out qualitative research based on semi-structured interviews with eleven new representatives of Czech cultural and art patronage. The research objective was to explore attitudes to philanthropy in general, to arts and culture in particular and to reveal motivations of philanthropists leading to their support of arts organizations and entities. Based on a comparison of the research outputs to outputs of selected international studies, the author finds out that in the most cases Czech patrons have more or less the same motivations to support arts and culture (etc.) as...
Mythological Inspiration in the poetry of Lorenzo de' Medici

The first part of this master thesis is focused on the personality of Lorenzo deʼ Medici and his inclusion in the period and cultural contexts. The literary background of Italy in the 15th century is introduced, as well as the Lorenzo's life, the summary of his literary output and his contribution as a patron of the Florentine culture and arts. The second part analyzes four of the Lorenzoʼs works related to mythological themes going back until the ancient writers. Lorenzoʼs evident influence by these authors is illustrated with the specific quotations but at the same time his own innovations in texts and stories are referred to. The conclusion compares an extend of this influence on him and the contribution of his own invention to the particular works. It points out the uniqueness of the personality of Lorenzo deʼ Medici both in the cultural and literary spheres as well.
Forms of Patronage in Czech Environment

The author of this diploma thesis will conduct an interdisciplinary synthesis about signficance of patronage in history of Czech art. The core of the thesis will be an analysis of the chosen phenomenon through four case studies dedicated to selected personalities, who represent different eras and different forms of patronage: Josef Hlávka, Václav Špaček ze Starburgu, August Švagrovský and Pavel Vašíček. Main chapters will prepare critical evaluation of existing literature as well as general exposition of the subject of the thesis. Case studies will be genereallised and sumarized in the final chapter, which will define specifics of patronage in Czech environment. Picture attachment will be a part of the thesis. Motivation of the patrons of arts

The Master's Thesis deals with the motivation of art patrons, with a special emphasis on contemporary patrons promoting art and culture in the Czech environment. The theoretical part focuses on defining the basic terminology and presents selected studies of volunteering and donation in the non-profit sector with a special focus on culture. The current status in this field is described from the general economic aspects of the support of arts in the Czech Republic to the psychological aspects of individuals. The second part of the thesis is devoted to the patronage of art and introduces the most important patrons of art, considering the historical context and development of the patronage in the history of Czech art. The practical part is based on the media analysis and the interview analysis and the resulting summary of the motivation of the patrons of art.
